7 tips on where to eat in Liptov

This traditional restaurant is an excellent choice. Not only is it just a 5-minute walk from us, but it also serves traditional Slovak specialities in beautiful surroundings. The outdoor area has a lovely mountain setting with a direct view of the River Demänovka. As the owner is a jazz enthusiast, there is a good chance you will enjoy your meal accompanied by live music. Musicians from countries around the world perform at the restaurant.

Koliba Bystrina

For traditional Slovak dining, Koliba Bystrina is the place to go. As soon as you enter, you will know you are in Slovakia. Waiters in Slovak folk dress will serve you, the menu is full of Slovak specialities and traditional folk music completes the atmosphere. Meat lovers can choose dishes such as the Važec speciality or Tatra tower with a homemade potato pancake, fresh trout from the Demänovka, or genuine Liptov roast lamb on the bone. Do not be afraid to try local classics such as bryndza dumplings or pirohy, made on site using the finest ingredients from a local supplier at the Važec organic farm. After a good meal, be sure to leave room for something sweet. Do not miss their homemade strudel—it is one of our absolute favourites.

Pivnica Restaurant

A cosy family restaurant lies close by, at the entrance to the village of Pavčina Lehota, around a 10-minute walk away. Enjoy good food and a beer indoors or outside on the wooden terrace, which has a beautiful view of Mount Demänovská.

Aha Pizza & Pasta

If Slovak cuisine has not won you over, there is an Italian classic nearby too. On the drive to our apartment house, you can stop at the Tatraline shopping centre at the start of Demänovská Road for the finest Italian treats in the area.

Liptovar

A place where excellent food accompanies fine craft beer. You can sample several beers and choose from a rich selection of tasty dishes. Liptovar is in Liptovský Mikuláš, so if your plans include a visit to the town, remember to stop here.

Bonsai

Vietnam in Liptov? No problem. Bonsai is quite simply the region’s only—and unrivalled—Asian restaurant. It is located in Liptovský Mikuláš, just under 9 km by car from our apartment house, a journey of around 14 minutes.

Salaš Dechtáre

 There can hardly be a visitor who has not heard of Liptovská Mara and the well-known Salaš Dechtáre beside it. Thanks to its excellent location just off the motorway, many people make it an essential stop during their holiday. It is a lovely place to spend time over good food amid beautiful Liptov scenery.
